The Cloud-Capped Star - The Criterion Collection (Blu-ray)

In the refugee colonies of post-Partition Calcutta, Neeta (Supriya Choudhury) sacrifices everything — her education, her love, her health — to support her family. Ritwik Ghatak's masterpiece is one of the great films about female endurance and the cost of displacement, shot with a raw, jagged expressionism entirely unlike anything else in Indian cinema. The film's final scene — Neeta's cry from the mountain — is among the most shattering in the medium.
