In the American Directorate, a person’s identity controls almost everything. The Life Ledger can cut off your money, lock you out of your home, and stop a doctor from treating you. Once your name is erased, the country treats you as though you were never there.

Caleb Ward spent years enforcing that system. Then he captures a resistance fighter whose records identify him as the son Caleb buried eight years ago.

Before the day is over, Caleb is erased, too.

With the government hunting him, Caleb has no choice but to rely on the same people he once chased. What they show him leads back to the bombing that destroyed his family and to the men who built the Directorate from the wreckage.
