The Ranger Years

Jesse Rivers was captured as a child and raised by the Comanche. When his adoptive Comanche parents die in a smallpox epidemic, his father’s second wife, who is a white woman, asks him to take her back to live in the white man’s world and encourages him to join her. A previous encounter with Texas Ranger Captain Hayes, who had once enticed him to join the Texas Rangers, is an exciting option Jesse can’t turn down. Jesse decides to take his stallion, Night Sky, and join the Rangers. His skills as a Comanche warrior and expertise in leading Comanche war parties on countless raids against Indian, Anglo and Mexican adversaries, are all Jesse has to offer. Captain Hayes covets these skills in Jesse, as well as his reputation as leader and battlefield tactician. Being a Texas Ranger is dangerous and casualties are high. Outlaws, Indian ambushes and gunfights are everyday occurrences and Jesse can hardly wait.
