Creation: A Visual Meditation through the Seven Movements of Genesis

Creation: A Visual Meditation through the Seven Movements of Genesis invites readers to slow down and linger with the biblical creation account through twenty-one works in encaustic wax, clay, earth pigments, metallic leaf and mixed media. Moving from darkness and deep water into light, life, relationship and rest, each artwork remains with a particular moment in the Genesis text.

Brief reflections and contemplative prompts offer a simple rhythm of noticing, wondering, listening, contemplating and prayer. Rather than attempting to illustrate creation literally or resolve its mysteries, the book creates space to look closely, receive creation as gift and become more attentive to the presence of God.

Created by Lutheran chaplain and artist Kirstin Munchenberg, this visual meditation is suited to personal reflection, retreats, prayer spaces, small groups and anyone drawn to the meeting of Scripture, visual art and contemplative practice.
