Twelve years after the deadly C-virus destroyed civilization, Jack has learned how to survive alone.

The abandoned city belongs to the dead. During the day, Jack searches empty buildings for food, water, weapons, and anything else he needs to stay alive. But when darkness falls, the zombies awaken and begin hunting.

Jack knows their patterns. He knows where to hide. He knows when to run.

And he has one loyal companion: his dog, Axel.

But everything changes when Jack reaches a bridge surrounded by zombies and discovers Holly, a young woman fighting to survive. She is the first living human Jack has seen in twelve years.

Jack rescues her, and the two return to his safe house with Axel. Holly tells Jack about a mysterious map and hints that other survivors may still be alive. For the first time in years, Jack begins to believe that humanity may not be completely gone.

Then something changes.

The zombies become more aggressive. They begin moving together. They surround Jack's safe house instead of attacking randomly.

And among them is something different.

A mysterious Zombie Leader.

It can recognize people. It appears to understand Jack. And its broken voice carries a terrifying message:

"B...b...b..."

As the C-virus continues to evolve, Jack, Holly, and Axel find themselves trapped inside the safe house. The zombies attack from every direction, forcing them into an underground escape route.

But the Zombie Leader follows.

When Jack is trapped, Axel makes the ultimate sacrifice to save him.

Heartbroken but determined, Jack and Holly continue through the hidden tunnels. There they discover signs that other humans have survived underground and that someone named Henry may know the way to them.

Jack's twelve years of loneliness are finally over.

But his greatest fight is only beginning.

The C-virus is changing.

The zombies are becoming smarter.

The Zombie Leader is still alive.

And somewhere beneath the ruined world lies a secret that could determine the future of humanity.
