States: Poems of love, distance, and changing light

States is a book of poems about the conditions we live between. It moves through five movements, from Sweet Poetry to Rusty Astronaut, and its subjects are the plain ones that fill a life: wanting to be known, the fear of losing what matters, the pull of childhood memory, the body under weather, the small self beneath a very large sky. Shaun J Apple writes without ornament and without flinching, turning private thought into lines a reader can stand inside. The collection was first drafted in 2007 and 2008 and revised for this edition. It is a field guide to the states of a feeling, and it asks only that you read from inside the experience rather than above it.
