The guest arrived. Now it wants to know what we'll do with what we were given.

The gift is fading. Drop by drop, the enhancement that rewrote a hundred lives is receding. With the network thinning, the impossible perception is going quiet.

Then the truth dawns: the cubes were never vessels but templates: the alien mind's own architecture, grown from the only hundred humans close enough to carry it. The Effected weren't chosen to do a job. They were chosen to be watched. It's a test of what humanity would do to the people it feared.

The verdict isn't in; that's why the presence is still here.
