The Kingdom Within: A Journey Through Shadow, Surrender, and Grace

The Kingdom Within is a deeply personal memoir of one woman's journey from survival and striving to surrender, healing, and grace.

From a childhood shaped by fear, responsibility, and learning to read the emotional world around her, Yesenia Otero carried those patterns into adulthood. In her work in healthcare, being dependable became part of her identity. She learned to anticipate needs, solve problems, care for others, and carry more than anyone expected-until the weight she had learned to carry so well became too heavy.

Through demanding seasons in the clinic, the clinic move, a devastating flood and renovation, emotional exhaustion, anxiety, and eventually resignation, Yesenia reached a place where she had nothing more to give. What looked like an ending became the beginning of a deeper journey.

Through faith, prayer, therapy, reflection, forgiveness, boundaries, and a growing understanding of the patterns that had shaped her life, she began learning a different way to live. Healing did not require erasing the past. It meant understanding it with greater compassion, releasing what was no longer hers to carry, and discovering that her worth had never depended on how much she could accomplish for others.

At the center of that journey was a spiritual awakening: the realization that the peace she had spent years searching for could not be found through achievement, approval, or endless striving. She began discovering the Kingdom of God in surrender, presence, ordinary moments, and a life increasingly rooted in Christ.

The Kingdom Within is for readers who have spent years being strong for everyone else, who feel exhausted from carrying too much, or who sense that God may be inviting them into a gentler and more honest way of living.

This is a story of breaking and rebuilding, of learning to release without becoming bitter, and of discovering that sometimes finding your way forward begins by finally coming home to yourself-and to God.
