The Effected: The Bridge

They were the invitation. Now the guest is arriving!

A year ago, a hundred ordinary people woke with a blue cube on their hands. Now they live in a compound in the desert, half-worshipped and half-feared, guarding a secret the world cannot be trusted with, and reaching every night toward the vast presence they were made to answer.

Then the presence turns toward them. And speaks.

But the nearer the two worlds draw, the more glaring the truth becomes. The hundred were not gathered at random. Every skill, every mind, every life, all of it was chosen for a purpose none of them agreed to. And as contact deepens, someone in a windowless room decides that a handful of altered civilians holding the fate of the species is a danger that cannot be allowed to stand.

A father whose impossible gift is quietly fading must find a way to make the only argument left: not that humanity is good, but that it is not yet finished.

Some bridges rise while some burn. And some you have to become.

The Bridge is a story about being chosen without being asked, and the difference between being used and being seen. .
