Love was easy when midnight belonged to us.

In Midnight Outlaw, I told the story of falling in love with my best friend—the reckless country boy who became my safe place, my home, and the man I believed I would spend my life with.

Letters from Lockup begins where that freedom ends.

When the Midnight Outlaw is taken away, our ordinary life disappears overnight. Suddenly, love has to survive through letters, recorded phone calls, prison rules, long-distance visits, countdowns, and the uncertainty of what will be waiting for us when the distance is finally gone.

But incarceration isn't the only thing testing us.

There are old wounds, broken trust, difficult truths, financial sacrifices, loneliness, and the consequences of choices neither love nor forgiveness can erase.

Still, we keep choosing each other.

We plan a wedding. Dream about our future. Count the days. Write the letters. Answer the calls. And hold onto the belief that if we can just survive the distance, we can finally have the life we've been waiting for.
