仏日対訳　シチリアの晩鐘

『シチリアの晩鐘』5幕の韻文悲劇の作者は、若き詩人カジミール・ドラヴィーニュである。カジミールは『シチリアの晩鐘』をテアトル・フランセに提出した。朗読会が開かれたが、審査員団は、作者が上演を要求しないことを条件でのみ受理するとした。当時、テアトル・フランセは国立劇場の特権を鼻にかけ、国家公務員の待遇に安住した地位を誇っていたのである。その後、初演は国立第二劇場オデオン座で1819年10月23日に行われ、大成功を収めた。この劇は300回の公演で多くの観客を集め、オデオン座の選考委員会の判断が正しかったことを証明した。若いスクリーブは、『シチリアの晩鐘』のパロディのヴォードヴィルを、当のテアトル・フランセの目と鼻の先のヴォードヴィル劇場で上演し、思い上がったテアトル・フランセを庶民の観客の笑いものにしたのである。

English： A Parody’s Triumph: The Hidden Turn of Fortune for The Sicilian Vespers

Title: The Triumph of Satire: The Untold Story of The Sicilian Vespers

The five-act verse tragedy The Sicilian Vespers was the work of the brilliant young poet Casimir Delavigne. When he submitted it to the Théâtre-Français, the committee held a reading but imposed a humiliating condition: they would only accept the script on the basis that the author never demand its performance. At the time, the Théâtre-Français prided itself on its national monopoly, its members content with their secure status as state officials.

However, the play’s premiere took place on October 23, 1819, at the newly rebuilt Théâtre de l'Odéon, where it became a resounding success. With over 300 performances, it proved the Odéon committee’s foresight correct. To celebrate the victory of his friend’s younger brother, the young Eugène Scribe staged a vaudeville parody of The Sicilian Vespers at the Théâtre du Vaudeville—located right under the nose of the Théâtre-Français. Through laughter, he turned the arrogant national theater into a laughingstock for the Parisian public.

Français： Le Triomphe de la Parodie : Le revers de fortune des Vêpres siciliennes

La tragédie en cinq actes et en vers, Les Vêpres siciliennes, est l’œuvre du jeune poète Casimir Delavigne. Lorsqu’il présenta sa pièce à la Comédie-Française, le comité de lecture imposa une condition inouïe : le manuscrit ne serait accepté qu’à la condition expresse que l’auteur n’en exigeât jamais la représentation. À l'époque, la Comédie-Française, fière de ses privilèges de théâtre national, s’assoupissait dans le confort de son statut de fonctionnaire d'État.

Le destin en décida autrement. La création eut lieu le 23 octobre 1819 à l'Odéon, fraîchement reconstruit, et fut un triomphe éclatant. Fort de 300 représentations, le succès prouva la justesse du choix du comité de l'Odéon. Pour fêter le succès du frère de son ami Germain Delavigne, le jeune Eugène Scribe monta une parodie en vaudeville des Vêpres siciliennes au Théâtre du Vaudeville. Situé à deux pas de la Comédie-Française, Scribe fit ainsi de l'institution orgueilleuse la risée du public parisien par la force du rire.
