Created Unequal

Twenty-five-year-old Avella did everything right. She graduated with honors and applied to numerous job postings, but couldn’t secure her highly coveted first job after college. Faced with a few years of the worst labor market in generations during the Great Recession, she is still waitressing, drowning in student loan debt, and watching her carefully constructed future implode. Meanwhile those around her seem to find paths with fewer obstacles, like her younger brother who is not only graduating college with a job offer, but also has found a future bride. If he wasn’t already a source of great pride for his parents, now it seems they will resent their eldest daughter even more for not giving them grandchildren. But Avella has a plan to get her life back on track… but will a small town girl find the opportunity she seeks in the masculine culture of the military? Follow her journey to the end in this dark dramedy navigating prejudice, hypocrisy, and many other failures of American society.
