He Chose My Sister, But It Was Always Me
The day Chiara learned Griffin was marrying her sister, she took a leave of absence from school and flew to Europe. Before the plane took off, messages from Griffin flooded her phone, one after another.
*This isn’t what you think. Come back. I’ll explain.*
*Don’t do anything rash.*
*Answer me. Please.*
Chiara had loved him for ten years. Every time she took a step closer, he pushed her away for the same reason. He always said they were impossible. And then, in the blink of an eye, he was marrying her sister. She stared at the screen. For the first time, the man who was always so calm, so in control, had used the word *please*.
She powered down her phone, popped out the SIM card, and tucked it into the seat-back pocket. Three years later, if it weren’t for the memorial Mass marking the third anniversary of her father’s death, Chiara never would have set foot in New York again.
