Introduction to "The House on Ash Street"

Delaney, a Boston woman whose life is falling apart, unexpectedly receives a letter from a lawyer: her great-aunt Edith Marsh, whom she never knew, has died and left her the old house at 14 Ash Street in the town of Harrow's End, Massachusetts. She drives to the remote and peculiar small town, where she finds a black house that has been empty for forty years. In the only locked room in the attic, hidden behind a black cloth, stands an ancient mirror.

When she pulls away the cloth, the mirror does not show her reflection. Instead, the face of an eight-year-old girl appears—Lily, the daughter of Edith Marsh, who disappeared years ago. In 1984, Lily vanished from the house without a trace. But inside the mirror, Lily is still alive, trapped on the other side of the glass in a dark world.
