The Chocolat Transmission
Absurd Writings of a Time Traveller, Volume Two

Mistakes were made. A terrier may share the blame.

Greg is an industrial control systems programmer by trade, an accidental time traveller by experience, and the designer of the Gravitational Time Dilation Amplifier, now on version 48. The machine has seventeen heavy-duty safety interlocks, a rubidium frequency standard, an automated NULL loop that bleeds vacuum stress from the Higgs field in 2.3 seconds, and an indicator light that has never, in 1,247 jumps, been the wrong colour.

Until last Tuesday.

The light is mauve. The jump log is open on a sequence Greg did not initiate. In the corner of the workshop, occupying the exact coordinate of strongest field resonance, sits a wire-haired terrier in a faded red sequinned collar last seen backstage at the Moulin Rouge in 1893. His name is Chocolat. He did not arrive by jump. He is simply there, reading the displacement field with an accuracy that makes the sensor suite look like an optimistic guess.

What follows is a jump log written at speed: a structured transmission arriving inbound through Hawking radiation; a correlation coefficient of 0.94 between a digital amplifier and a canine nervous system; a biometric signature that is Greg's own, accumulated across a decade of displacement and now leaking from the far side of an event horizon. A future operator overrode a laminated checklist to extract a stranded foundation member, crossed a threshold light cannot escape, and is sending the record back.

Ettore Majorana—Ed—is calculating in the spare bedroom. Linda is already dressed and inventorying tea. The Fermi paradox resolves as a tracking error. The galaxy is not empty. Forty billion compact gravitational anomalies are occupied. Civilisations that ran out of vacuum margin packed their processes inside the upholstery and have been broadcasting through the thermal radiation ever since. Earth is the last open loop in the sector.

The patch exists. It cannot be executed by a smeared wavefunction. It requires a consciousness locked in a single, un-decohered now—and a collar that has carried a field signature since 1893.

Volume Two continues Greg's field notes in the same precise, pedantic, increasingly urgent voice: cold tea consumed anyway, socks with structural deficiencies, six ancestral jump scars across four thousand years, and the discovery that the workshop wall was never facing the street. It was simply the side of the bench facing the network.

The universe does not send warnings. It sends a dog.
