Do Not Read This on Halloween
Harrowick loves Halloween. It may have loved the wrong story for sixty years.
Every October 31, thousands descend on the town for costumes, lanterns, candy, and its famous Last Knock. At exactly 10:31, participating homes leave one final piece of candy outside, turn off the porch light, and close the door.
Nobody asks why.
Then children begin appearing twice.
A handmade owl costume turns up on two children at once. Families encounter impossible copies of people they love. An old civil-defense roster surfaces with six children listed as unaccounted for after a 1966 chemical fire.
And beneath Harrowick, someone is knocking on a door that should have stayed buried.
As paramedic Avery Rusk and her family uncover what the town chose to remember, Halloween becomes a night of masks, thresholds, counting, and one terrifying question:
Who gets to come inside when safety demands that someone remain outside?
The central historical mystery really does begin with a 1966 roster listing 63 present, 6 unaccounted, with the fairground children omitted from the school roster.
