The Kepleans: Berlin
"Eleonora Veninova has a rare comic imagination – she takes a wild premise and finds the human truth inside it, and never lands where you expect. A wholly original voice." – Frank Spotnitz, Writer of The X Files and The Man in the High Castle
Vega and Mizar, two aliens from Planet Kepler, on a mission to upgrade humanity with new technology, crash land in West Berlin in 1970. Under the looming danger of a world global conflict in the midst of the Cold War, they move in with Herr Hahn, a retired physics professor, a proud grandfather and a UFO enthusiast.
But once there, Vega and Mizar must pretend to be human parents to Herr Hahn's sixteen-year-old granddaughter Aurora, a troubled teenager who hates humans and aliens alike. To add to their woes, their next-door neighbour Major Matthew, a U.S. Army intelligence officer who's constantly on the lookout for Russians - as well as a potential wife. Strangely, Vega seems like a good fit for both.
From the first microchip, through GPS, to 3D printers the Kepleans bring with them the technology we use today. As they navigate their complicated mission, Vega and Mizar realize that allowing themselves to actually like humans will be their greatest mistake of all.
