A Science Panorama: Essays on Science, and the Scientists We Know - and Need to Know

A Science Panorama brings together nearly 50 essays, articles, film and book reviews, and works for the stage, written and published by a physicist whose successful research career is paralleled by an award-winning career presenting science and its role in our society to general readers. This latest in a series of the author's collected works covers much of the science and technology since 2020 that has drawn our interest and affected our lives, from quantum mechanics to artificial intelligence, from brain science and climate science to facial recognition technology. The book also presents biographical pieces, and stage plays, about the lives and work of scientists — mostly women but some men too — whose significant contributions have unfortunately been overlooked. The separate pieces are organized into groups with additional new material that provides background and overviews. The aim of the book is to give non-scientists a sweeping view of recent science and technology, written at a level that explains the concepts for general readers, and presents their meanings and consequences for society and culture.
