$160.95

The urba nization of poverty defines key characteristic of urbanization across the Global South. This monograph introduces the concept of "slum-like settlements"-inspired by UN-Habitat&s "slum-like conditions"-to focus on the objective deficiencies in the living environment during the urbanization process in the Global South.

This monograph integrates theories of urban planning and human geography as well as remote sensing technology methods, constructs a systematic identification framework and maps "slum-like settlements" in 1,075 cities in the Global South. It analyzes the spatio-temporal dynamics over the past two decades, assesses environmental vulnerability, and examines the poverty characteristics of Asia, Africa and Latin America. It provides a basic research reference for researchers and practitioners dedicated to sustainable urban development.
