An exceptional 100% cotton luxury manufacturer deadstock featuring delicate white-on-white openwork embroidery and a spectacular one-sided ornamental embroidered border.

Across the main body of the fabric, small stylized floral motifs are connected by flowing lines of circular embroidered openings, creating an airy, rhythmic pattern with beautiful movement. The tonal white embroidery gives the design texture and definition while preserving an elegant monochromatic appearance.

What makes this fabric particularly special is its asymmetrical border design. Along one side of the fabric only, the repeating floral field transitions into increasingly elaborate openwork embroidery. A scrolling paisley-inspired band leads into a wide ornamental edge composed of large circular and scalloped motifs.

Please note: the two edges of the fabric are intentionally different. The decorative border appears on one side only; the opposite side does not have a matching ornamental border. If the fabric is turned or flipped when cutting a garment, the decorative treatment at each edge will therefore be different.

This one-sided border creates exciting possibilities for intentional pattern placement. It can be incorporated into the hem of a skirt or dress, the lower edge of a blouse or shirt, statement sleeves, panels or other areas where the ornate embroidery can become part of the garment design.

Both the base fabric and embroidery are 100% cotton.

The complete embroidered fabric weighs approximately 175 gsm - 5.16 oz/yd². This weight includes the embroidery and should not be interpreted as the weight of the underlying cotton base alone. The embroidered and openwork areas contribute to the weight and character of the finished fabric.

Important Border & Width Information

The complete fabric measures approximately 145 cm - 57" wide, while the embroidered design covers approximately 124 cm - 49".

The ornate border is located along one side of the fabric only. The opposite side does not have the same border design. We strongly recommend studying the full-width product photo and planning pattern placement before cutting, particularly if you intend to incorporate the decorative border into your garment.

For fabric requirements, we recommend calculating from the 124 cm - 49" embroidered width.

Recommended Uses

This distinctive embroidered cotton is beautiful for dresses, blouses, shirts, skirts, shirt dresses, gathered tops, shorts, flowy pants, wide-leg trousers and elegant summer garments. Its white-on-white openwork design also lends itself beautifully to special-occasion pieces, contemporary romantic garments, resort wear and modern bridal or bridal-adjacent sewing projects.

The one-sided ornamental border offers additional creative possibilities. Consider positioning it along a dress or skirt hem, blouse or shirt hem, sleeves or statement panels to make the decorative edge an integral part of the garment.

Because the fabric contains significant openwork areas, a lining or strategic underlayer may be desirable depending on the garment and the level of coverage required.

Care

We recommend washing in cold water on a gentle cycle, preferably inside a laundry bag to help protect the embroidery and openwork details. Air dry. Iron on the reverse at a low to medium temperature using a pressing cloth. Avoid contact with jewellery, zippers or rough surfaces that could catch the open embroidery. Prewashing before sewing is recommended.

FAQ

Is this fabric 100% cotton?
Yes. Both the base fabric and the embroidery are 100% cotton.

Does the 175 gsm weight include the embroidery?
Yes. The 175 gsm - 5.16 oz/yd² measurement is the total weight of the finished embroidered fabric, including the embroidery. It should not be interpreted as the weight of the underlying cotton base alone.

Does the decorative border appear on both sides of the fabric?
No. The elaborate ornamental border appears along one side of the fabric only. The opposite side does not have a matching border. Please refer to the full-width product photo when planning your project.

Can I use the embroidered border as part of my garment?
Yes. The one-sided border can be intentionally positioned at a skirt or dress hem, blouse or shirt hem, sleeves, panels or other areas where you would like the ornate embroidery to become a feature of the finished garment. Pattern placement should be planned carefully before cutting.

Is the entire 145 cm width embroidered?
No. The complete fabric measures approximately 145 cm - 57" wide, while the embroidered design covers approximately 124 cm - 49". We recommend using the embroidered width when calculating fabric requirements.

Are the open areas part of the design?
Yes. The floral motifs, circular details and ornamental border incorporate intentionally open areas outlined with embroidery.

Will this fabric need to be lined?
That depends on the garment and desired coverage. The design contains significant openwork areas, so a lining or underlayer may be preferred for dresses, skirts and other garments where additional coverage is desired.

Does this fabric stretch?
No. This is a non-stretch woven cotton fabric.
