The 223 A Lady's Chemise by Folkwear is inspired by the delicate undergarments worn by women during the mid to late 1800s. Traditionally hand-stitched from fine muslin or lawn and worn next to the skin, this versatile Victorian design can also be sewn today as a romantic nightgown, lightweight summer dress or blouse.
Both views feature short gathered and ruffled cap sleeves with delicate pleats at the centre front and back neckline. The neckline is adjustable with feminine ribbon drawstrings, and the garment can be made at a low knee length or shortened at the hip for a blouse.
View A features a late 19th-century neckline that falls just off the shoulders and is finished with purchased eyelet beading and lace or eyelet ruffles at the neckline and sleeves.
View B has an earlier-style neckline that sits on the shoulders and features a self-fabric ruffle casing for the ribbon drawstring.
Instructions and alphabet designs for adding an authentic Victorian monogram are also included.
