The 132 Moroccan Burnoose sewing pattern by Folkwear recreates a dramatic traditional North African cape with a sweeping half-circle silhouette, generous hood and distinctive tassel detail.

Traditionally worn in the Maghreb, the Burnoose is designed with a bias-cut half-circle body that falls smoothly over the shoulders and upper arms. A permanent centre-front closure positioned just below the throat keeps the cape securely in place while preserving its flowing silhouette.

The generous rectangular hood can be worn up or casually draped back, while a long tassel at the peak adds both weight and a characteristic finishing detail.

The pattern includes both a shorter mid-calf length and a traditional ankle length. Different edge-finishing techniques allow you to customize the finished garment with fold-over braid, novelty braid, bias facing or decorative soutache.

Sizing

The Moroccan Burnoose is a one-size pattern designed for both women and men. The pattern is adjusted according to the wearer's height and desired finished length rather than traditional body measurements.

The mid-calf version can be adjusted for heights up to 6'2", while the ankle-length version can be adjusted for heights up to 5'8".
