The 249 1930's Day Dress sewing pattern by Folkwear recreates the chic yet practical style of the late 1930s, when economical silhouettes were combined with touches of Hollywood glamour.
Based on an original dress dating from approximately 1939, this pattern includes two distinct dress variations. Both feature a flattering dropped waist, a slightly flared skirt and beautifully shaped details inspired by authentic late-1930s fashion.
View A features a round neckline with pointed collar, short sleeves and a cleverly constructed peplum. Although cut on the straight grain, the peplum creates the slimming appearance of a bias-cut design. Unpressed front tucks replace traditional bust darts and help create the fashionable broad-shouldered silhouette of the period. The dress closes with a centre-back zipper.
View B offers a more casual variation with a buttoned front bodice, flounced collar and sleeves, a centre-back zipper and distinctive eyelash pockets finished with flounced pocket bands.
