The Tidal Wave - The crisis that revealed the evangelicals

From February 17 to 21, 2020, 2,200 Christians gathered in Mulhouse for a week of prayer organized by the Porte Ouverte Chrétienne evangelical church. A few days later, several participants at the gathering showed symptoms of Covid-19, which had not yet been recorded in France at the time. Pandemonium ensued, and all television channels hammered home the message: the Mulhouse meeting was responsible for the country's contamination. For political and health authorities, they were the tipping point that caused French mortality rates to explode. The local consequences were serious: church members were insulted at their workplaces, and they received anonymous letters and death threats. Samuel Peterschmitt, pastor of the Porte Ouverte church, looks back on this crisis and opens up to Kévin Boucaud-Victoire, editor-in-chief for Marianne.
