Esther: Surviving in a Hostile World

The book of Esther helps the Christian live in a world that does not know God. How can one survive oppression? How can one refuse the unacceptable without being immediately cast aside and humiliated?

Faced with the genocide of their people, Esther and Mordecai knew how to keep a cool head to seize, with faith, courage, lucidity, tact, and integrity, the possibilities offered by God.

This commentary analyzes each chapter in light of the whole. The introduction or appendix examines the book’s message and literary characteristics, a portrait of the main characters, the general framework of the narrative, and a critique of the Greek translation of the book of Esther in the Septuagint, which adds one hundred verses to the Hebrew original.
