Mary Pope Osborne: Mummies in the Morning. Book 3
Do you know yet what a magical treehouse two children, eight-year-old Jack and his younger sister Annie, once discovered high up in a tree? Climbing into the house was so tempting, and inside, the children found books about different historical eras left behind by someone unknown. As it turns out, all you have to do is open a book and wish to see what's happening with your own eyes, and the treehouse immediately transports its guests to the depicted era. I think none of the readers would refuse such exciting adventures, especially since Jack and Annie quite quickly figured out which item to use to return home to Pennsylvania if things got too dangerous. In previous stories, Jack and Annie already managed to ride dinosaurs and meet a medieval knight, and quite predictably, they choose a book about Ancient Egypt for their new journey—who would refuse to freeze in terror at the sight of a mummy, feel the chill inside a tomb, or discover a treasury piled high with gold? On the journey, Jack acts like a born explorer: he records observations in a notebook, checks unfamiliar terms in the book they thoughtfully brought along, and is barely frightened at all by the mummy or the ghost of an Egyptian queen. A little detective work, a little mystery, a few spooky sounds, flickering torches, and doors slamming shut at the most inopportune moments—and the two children will help the queen complete her transition to the afterlife. For primary school age.
