Dunne is a very ordinary girl. She lives in Sweden, is in the first grade, loves school, and, like any other girl, has a best friend. Dunne considers herself happy: she even has a notebook called "My Happy Life," where she writes down when and why she was happy. But gradually, Dunne learns that things happen in life that make you feel truly sad. For example, your best friend might move to another city. Dad might not want Dunne to get guinea pigs. And it turns out you can fall out with classmates over the smallest thing. At first, Dunne is very upset. But then she realizes that many things can be fixed: she can make up with her friends, visit her best friend, and the guinea pigs will appear sooner or later... All sorts of things happen, and happiness isn't always perfect, but now Dunne knows for sure: her life, despite everything, is the happiest one of all. It’s late at night, but Dunne still can't fall asleep. Some people count sheep in such cases, but she knows something better! Dunne counts how many times she has been happy. For example, when, long ago in her childhood, her cousin Svante gave her a real live frog. Or when she first managed to swim three strokes without sinking. And when she got her school backpack. And how happy she was to be starting first grade! She had been waiting for that moment her whole life. Summer dragged on unbearably long—all because she was so eager to go to school.
