Nikolai Gogol: The Government Inspector

Two unique comedies by the classic playwright Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol: "The Government Inspector" and "Marriage" are witty mirrors in which human weaknesses, fears, and contradictions can be glimpsed.
"The Government Inspector" is one of the brightest examples of Russian satire. In the words of the author himself, in this comedy he "decided to gather all that was bad in Russia into one pile and have a good laugh at it all at once."
Will the Mayor be able to handle the arrival of the mysterious inspector and not lose face before the guest from the capital? Will the indecisive Ivan find his happiness when everyone around is talking of nothing but weddings? The answer is almost certainly obvious, because the characters of Gogol’s plays are always right before our eyes, and that only makes it funnier.
