Vera Panova: Seryozha
Vera Panova's immense life experience, her acquaintance with a variety of people, and the hardships she endured allowed her to find the surprisingly soulful tone that distinguishes her books. The novella "Seryozha" earned recognition immediately upon its publication. It was read, discussed, and even adapted for the screen.
A new person enters the family of Seryozha, a preschooler: his mother marries Dmitry Korostelyov. Very soon, his stepfather becomes a friend to the little boy: he not only buys him the bicycle he has been longing for, but also treats him as an equal, respecting his thoughts and actions. And yet, Seryozha's cloudless childhood comes to a sudden end with the arrival of his baby brother, Lyonya, who now takes up all of his mother's attention. His feeling of abandonment and loneliness intensifies when he learns that the whole family is moving to Kholmogory and leaving him with a neighbor. However, the little boy's distress does not go unnoticed by his loved ones.
