Harrison 500-Series Compressor
Harrison 500-Series Compressor
The Harrison 500-Series Compressor is a flexible analog dynamics processor based on Harrison’s classic feed-forward compressor topology. Designed to move easily between transparent dynamic control and more pronounced character compression, it can handle applications ranging from subtle vocal leveling and instrument control to heavily compressed drums, bass and other sources requiring additional impact.
At the heart of the circuit is a high-performance THAT 2180 VCA. The compressor uses a program-dependent attack response that automatically adapts to the incoming signal, while the continuously variable release control allows the recovery behavior to be adjusted from fast and transparent to slower, more noticeable compression.
Threshold and Ratio controls provide direct control over the amount and character of compression, while the Makeup control restores output level after gain reduction. A dedicated LED meter displays gain reduction in 2 dB increments, making it easy to monitor the amount of processing being applied. The compressor can deliver just a few decibels of smooth leveling or be driven harder for dense, energetic and more obviously compressed textures.
