The Rainger FX Recycle Box combines a powerful analog distortion circuit with an unruly triple-tap digital delay for dramatic, highly interactive sound design. Built around the same drive circuit as the Break Box, its distortion pairs Rainger FX’s favored overdrive design with elements derived from the Freakenbender Tonebender collaboration, producing a chunky, full-range sound with plenty of gain and harmonic bite. The delay follows the distortion, creating clean repeats of the clipped signal with three uniquely timed taps for a distinctive, rattling echo character.
Rather than using a conventional delay mix control, the Recycle Box keeps the echo level intentionally high and puts performance at the center of the design. Its large momentary PAD instantly switches between dry distortion and delayed distortion, while the PAD FLIP control reverses the behavior so the delay can remain active and be momentarily removed instead. Feedback ranges from a handful of multi-tap repeats to runaway self-oscillation, while delay time extends up to 770 ms. A built-in noise gate helps keep the high-gain analog distortion and digital echo under control when the effect gets extreme.
