The Doepfer A-180-6 is a flexible triple buffered signal distributor and control voltage source featuring three independently adjustable channels in a compact 4 HP module.

Each channel includes an adjustable output level. Maximum amplification is set to unity gain at the factory, making the module suitable for buffering and attenuating incoming signals without exceeding their original level. An internal modification can increase maximum gain to x2.

Inputs 2 and 3 are normalled to the preceding stages. With only Input 1 patched, a single signal can therefore be distributed through all three independently adjustable outputs. Alternatively, patching all three inputs allows the sections to operate as three separate buffers.

The normalization behavior of Input 2 can be modified internally so that the level-adjusted output from channel 1 becomes the default signal for channels 2 and 3. In this configuration, Level 1 acts as a master control when the other inputs are left unpatched.

Input 1 can also be internally normalled to a fixed +5V source. This turns the A-180-6 into a triple adjustable control-voltage generator, effectively providing a modern alternative to Doepfer's discontinued A-176 CV Source. Depending on the selected maximum gain setting, the available control voltage range is 0 to +5V or 0 to +10V.

All signal paths are DC-coupled, allowing the module to process both audio and control voltages.
