The Doepfer A-190-9 is an ultra-compact monophonic MIDI-to-CV/Gate interface designed for modular systems that need simple and reliable conversion of MIDI note information into analog pitch and Gate signals.

The module converts incoming MIDI notes into a 1V/octave control voltage with a range of 0 to +5V. Three connected CV outputs provide the same pitch information, effectively functioning as an integrated three-way buffered distribution point.

MIDI note 36 corresponds to 0V under the factory configuration, while the pitch scale is calibrated to exactly 1.00V/octave. Internal adjustment is provided for fine calibration.

Two interconnected Gate outputs deliver 0/+10V signals for triggering envelopes and other Gate-controlled functions. A front-panel LED gives immediate indication of Gate activity.

MIDI is received through a 3.5 mm TRS socket. Two internal jumpers allow compatibility with either of the common TRS MIDI wiring formats.

The A-190-9 deliberately focuses on note-number conversion and does not respond to MIDI velocity, pitch bend, MIDI controllers, or MIDI Clock. This makes it particularly suitable for compact systems where straightforward MIDI pitch and Gate conversion is the priority.

Internal MIDI connections also allow it to work with compatible Doepfer modules featuring internal MIDI outputs. This can be used, for example, to produce quantized CV from compatible sequencers or controllers.
