Violent Cop (Blu-ray)

A brutal, rule-breaking detective (Kitano himself, who took over the direction when Kinji Fukasaku dropped out) investigates a drug trafficking network while his mentally challenged sister becomes entangled in the case. Takeshi Kitano's directorial debut established the template for his extraordinary crime films: violence erupting suddenly into stillness, a deeply ambiguous protagonist, and an almost musical sense of rhythm.
